Thesis

As my thesis progresses, I am studying emotions, and more specifically, micro-emotions.  The idea that we make involuntary facial tweaks or spasms that give away our secrets, when we lie, and repressed emotions.  Certain body language is also a signifier for micro-emotions, but my focus will be principally on the face.
I look to Paul Ekman's research, which as recently inspired a new television series Lie to Me.

More Work

Just a little more of what I've been working on.  All part of a larger project that studies emotion and expression, particularly those emotions and expressions that are missed by the everyday person, and those we do not know we are making.

New Find

I am lured away by faraway distances, the immense void I project upon the world. A feeling of emptiness grows in me; it infiltrates my body like light an impalpable fluid. In its progress, like a dilation into infinity, I perceive the mysterious presence of the most contradictory feelings ever to inhabit a human soul. I am simultaneously happy and unhappy, exalted and depressed, overcome by pleasure and despair in the most contradictory harmonies.

LIttle of this, little of that

These are just a few rough sketches and images of what I'm working on.  These and others along the same vein will be in a show in a few months time. More information to come.

Izima Karou

Really awesome artist from Japan. Saw a book of his  series "Landscape With a Corpse" in Chelsea and loved his images.
He puts beautiful models in couture, then photographs them as if they are dead. His work reminds me of Melanie Pullen's High Fashion Crime Scenes although her images tend to be a bit more gory.

Google them both!
