Finally! I have found a designer to give my website a much needed facelift!

The website should be up and running by the weekend! With this new site, I will be able to update regularly.
I will also be unveiling the series' i had been working on for these many months!

I am going to try to kick this blog into 'real mode' and actually start posting more. However, art does not make itself, and I would rather make art than post!

I don't want to spoil any details, but a sparknotes version of the article is that an artist wants to cover all the billboards in Times Square with art in our very own Manhattan for a day!

The conceptual possibilities are endless! I, for one, would want to cycle works of art on the massive screens, rather than advertisments 24/7. In fact, my video project would look incredible that large (although it's life-size scale is what makes the video more impactful).

Any other ideas? What would you do if you could have the resources?

I just downloaded an incredible app that I've been waiting for! Finally I can update my website from my iPad. It's called FTP and I can't wait to use it!

My website will be undergoing an overhaul! Stay tuned.

Sorry for my extended absence. Blogger has not been cooperating and allowing me to post for some strange reason, so when I can, I will put up my now irrelevant posts that were written, but wouldn't publish.

My newest series is off and running, and I hope it continues to gather speed.

Blog Neglect

I'm afraid I am guilty of blog neglect. The good news there is that it gave time for my website, http://www.jenniferpanick.com/ to go live! On the sight, there a tab that redirects back to here.

I spent another lovely day museum hopping on Saturday. I visited the Vermeer's at the Met, as well as the Monet Waterlilies at the MoMa.

I must say that I was distinctly disappointed at the MoMa's showing. There were only six in the entire show, which was just a little room next to the new cafe on the 2nd floor. The biggest painting was of course the gorgeous three-panel painting which is always at the MoMa in any case.

The Vermeer show had a little more substance, including The Milkmaid which hasn't been here in 75 years. They even had a case with the pitcher and other items that were depicted in with the Milkmaid.

I enjoyed the wall when you first enter the most. It was tiled with prints of all of Vermeer's works from the Milkmaid to the Girl with the Pearl Earring. It's always fascinating to see an artist's collected works all together, particularly with Vermeer. With all his paintings lined up, you can really see his use of the camera obscura, and his studio window as a device in a great portion of his paintings.

Playing around with some new things all day today.....

These four paintings are a little slice of what I've been working on. This series is inspired partially by inkblots. I have always found it fascinating how complex our minds are, and the idea that the way we perceive seemingly mundane things tells something about our inner psyche that we may not have realized ourselves. My viewers will create their own meanings for what they see. Rather than force my own vision upon them, they will create an experience of their own.

This is just a little playing around with a rose picked from the garden. I apologize for poor picture quality and cropping, they were taken with my iPhone in my studio.

Looking into putting together a show, group or otherwise; mixed media. I'm open to themes and ideas.

Continuing to develop my body of work, moving on to larger scale. I'll post what I've been working on when I get a spare moment. My abstract watercolors continue, though I don't think I'll ever leave oils behind. I just feel that there is so much more movement to be had with watercolors.

As my thesis progresses, I am studying emotions, and more specifically, micro-emotions. The idea that we make involuntary facial tweaks or spasms that give away our secrets, when we lie, and repressed emotions. Certain body language is also a signifier for micro-emotions, but my focus will be principally on the face.

I look to Paul Ekman's research, which as recently inspired a new television series Lie to Me.

Really awesome artist from Japan. Saw a book of his series "Landscape With a Corpse" in Chelsea and loved his images.

He puts beautiful models in couture, then photographs them as if they are dead. His work reminds me of Melanie Pullen's High Fashion Crime Scenes although her images tend to be a bit more gory.
